Read: wander about

Book. Warm covers.

Written and hand made.

It all started with finding out that a place where I was planning to develop a project dealing with salt had been in the past a concentration camp. I could not be indifferent to this fact. I thought that if I wanted to work there, I had to address that, otherwise I would have to take my salt experiments somewhere else. I chose the second option. One day I wanted to experiment how salt felt in my body, more specifically, I wanted to float in salted water. Since I only had a small shower, the closest I could do was to fill it with salt and see what happens. The moment I found myself stepping in the shower, the sight of my foot in the whitish water violently brought a memory to my head: some ten years ago I visited for the first and last time a concentration camp in Germany. It was covered in snow and all I could think of was that in that moment I was wearing my warmest clothes, and I could still feel the cold, while the prisoners used to walk around in bare feet during the long freezing months of winter. This second event forced me to deal with the fact that I am Jewish, that I supposedly have Polish roots but it’s not at all clear, and that I was working in a place charged with such a difficult past.

Notes, conversations, dreams, emails, google translations, poems I read and loved or hated, memories, things that happened to me in the winter of Kraków in February, 2015.
